Partnership

Why Partner with Zenzero for Microsoft Defender for Office 365?

Email remains one of the most common entry points for cyber attacks, which is why getting the configuration right is just as important as having the technology in place. At Zenzero, we help organisations move beyond default settings and optimise Microsoft Defender for Office 365 around their users, business processes, and risk profile.

Our team reviews your existing Microsoft 365 security posture, identifies gaps, and configures the right combination of Safe Links, Safe Attachments, anti-phishing controls, and security policies. We also tune protection for high-risk users, helping to reduce false positives while maintaining strong security controls.

By integrating Defender for Office 365 into your wider Microsoft security strategy, we help create a more connected approach to threat detection, investigation, and response. The result is stronger protection across email and collaboration tools, improved visibility for IT teams, and a more resilient Microsoft 365 environment.

Capabilities

Key Microsoft Defender for Office 365 capabilities

Safe Links protection

Checks URLs at time of click, helping block links that become malicious after an email has already been delivered.

Safe attachments protection

Opens suspicious attachments in a protected virtual environment to detect malware, ransomware, zero day malware and other harmful content before users interact with them.

Anti-phishing and impersonation protection

Helps detect spoofing, domain impersonation and user impersonation attempts that are often used in business email compromise attacks. AI driven impersonation protection uses large language models to detect spoofing patterns and suspicious sender behaviour that may not be obvious from the message content alone.

Threat investigation and response

Gives security teams threat explorer, detailed information and the tools to investigate advanced threats, understand who was affected, review real time detections and take action quickly.

Preset and custom security policies

Microsoft Defender defines three preset policies and security profiles: built-in, standard protection and strict protection. These help organisations apply Microsoft recommended protection levels quickly, manage protection settings through global settings, and still allow custom policies where specific recipients, departments or risk levels require more specific controls.

Security awareness support

Helps organisations combine technical controls with user education, reporting processes and practical guidance.

Still have Qs?

Questions we
often get asked:

Doesn’t Microsoft 365 already filter spam and malware?

Basic filtering exists, but Defender for Office 365 adds far stronger protection against sophisticated phishing, malicious links and attachments, and business email compromise - plus the investigation and response tools to deal with what gets through. It hardens your most-targeted attack surface and builds on Exchange Online Protection with additional security service features and add ons.

Can it stop phishing entirely?

No tool catches everything, but it dramatically reduces malicious messages reaching inboxes and speeds up response when one does. We tune policies to catch threats without disrupting legitimate communication, and pair the technology with guidance so people become part of the defence.

What about links that are safe when sent but weaponised later?

Defender checks links at time-of-click as well as on delivery, so a link that becomes malicious after the email arrives is still caught. That real-time checking is a key advantage over basic filtering.

Does Defender for Office 365 protect Microsoft Teams and SharePoint?

Yes. Defender for Office 365 can help protect collaboration across Microsoft 365, including supported scenarios in Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and Microsoft 365 apps, not just email.

Can Zenzero configure Defender for Office 365 for high risk users?

Yes. We can apply stronger protection for users who are more likely to be targeted, such as directors, finance teams, senior leaders, specific recipients and people with access to sensitive systems or data.

Can Defender for Office 365 replace a third party secure email gateway?

In many Microsoft 365 environments, yes. Because Defender for Office 365 is integrated into Microsoft 365, it can reduce or remove the need for a separate secure email gateway, depending on your current configuration, compliance requirements and risk profile. Zenzero can assess whether consolidation is appropriate and help plan the transition safely.

What are Microsoft Defender preset security profiles?

Microsoft Defender defines three preset security profiles: built-in, standard protection and strict protection. Built-in protection gives baseline coverage, Standard applies a balanced Microsoft-recommended configuration for broad use, and Strict applies more aggressive settings for users who are more likely to be targeted or who need stronger controls.
