Data Visualisation Developer and Consultant

Reporting to: Director of Data, Analytics and Digital Engineering

Location: Port Elizabeth, South Africa

Working Hours: 40 hours per week

Purpose of the role

The focus of this role is to deliver data visualisation, manipulation and consolidation projects using a variety of solutions within the Microsoft Power Platform and Azure Cloud Solutions. To work within a highly progressive and collaborative team consisting of technical and commercial colleagues to deliver services and projects for our clients.

The role will include both internal data work and external client data work to mature ourselves into a data driven organisation as well as create lasting impact for our clients. The role will work directly with the Director of Data Analytics and Digital Engineering to scope work and deliver true lasting change.

Client Delivery

You will be using your experience to help our clients solve their most important data challenges. You would also be responsible for supporting the growth of our team, helping them to build the skills they need to solve our client’s challenges.

Typical projects and services include:

  • Developing dashboards and reports for senior management to better understand and track business operations

  • Design and implement new data pipelines to enable the unification of multiple data sources and build business logic to enable reporting across an organisation

  • Performing maturity assessments across our clients’ data analytics capability, providing guidance on how to better utilise and leverage data, using your experience and industry best-practices to form recommendations

  • Appling advanced data analytics techniques to generate new insights and answer questions such as how a client could generate more revenue or how they could increase customer satisfaction

  • Upskilling client teams in data modelling, how to tell stories with data and how to create meaningful and insightful reporting

  • Deploying and on-boarding new data visualisation/ETL software for a client to enhance their analytical capability

We do not expect you to be an expert in all areas and we understand that experiences vary based on the background and years of experience.

Below we list some of the skills we are looking for:

  • Be inquisitive about how data can be used to solve business problems and better understand the world around us

  • Expertise in data visualisations and telling stories with data

  • Experience in a at least one visualisation tool such as Tableau, Power BI, etc.

  • Experience creating ETL pipelines in tools such as SQL, Alteryx, Python, etc.

  • Knowledge of optimal design of data structures and models to enable end-to-end reporting

  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to develop great relationships with stakeholders

  • Comfortable capturing business requirements and successfully delivering end to end analysis

  • A desire to use data to drive transformation in our clients, whether that be improving operational performance, reducing risk, growing their customer base or improving service levels

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to develop clear requirements and specifications and communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical colleagues.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of PowerBI dashboards and reporting.

  • Knowledge of best practice in data modelling.

  • An understanding of SQL databases.

  • Knowledge of the capabilities of MS Power Platform

Desirable

  • Data engineering from source systems to databases and API integration

  • Microsoft Solution Architecture of Power Platform

  • Knowledge of best practise in project delivery

  • Knowledge of the ISO27001 and ISO9001.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in delivering project work to clients

  • Experience of working with clients to build requirements for data visualisations

  • Experience in working with the Microsoft Power Platform

  • Experience of working in a collaborative team

Desirable

  • Experience of small – medium enterprise market

  • Experience of scoping data projects and being able to estimate effort

  • Experience of coaching and/or providing training to colleagues in your field of expertise
